After a brief spell on the hire desk for a plant hire company, I started as the Equipment Controller for Ravenstock (later acquired by Mobile Mini) when I relocated to the North East from the North West. As the company has changed over the years, so did my role which eventually developed into the Procurement and Equipment Control Manager role that I do now.
The Equipment Control team as a whole works very closely with the branch network making sure that the internal systems match what is happening in our yards and managing the production schedules at the manufacturers so that new stock is available to meet the demands of our customers.
The main day to day aspects of my role focus on negotiating contracts and managing supplier relationships, to ensure that they are delivering on the agreements in place to help our branches deliver the best service to our customers.
I get a lot of satisfaction from my role in particular from negotiating with suppliers and building successful working partnerships, which can help our branches achieve a competitive edge. The best day has to be when I saw one of the first trucks I ordered handed over to the receiving branch. Truck purchases are a long and sometimes stressful process and being based at our Corporate office, I don’t often get to see the finished vehicle in its new home so it was hugely satisfying to see the product of all the hard work delivered first hand.
