Working at Mobile Mini
All about apprentices
“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.”
We love this quote from Benjamin Franklin, not least because it perfectly sums up how we do things here at Mobile Mini – and National Apprenticeship Week is the perfect time to shout about how we’re always getting our team involved in their own learning!
One such way is our comprehensive range of apprenticeships, which we offer in a wide range of fields, from team leadership to digital marketing.
We are also currently involved in the creation of a Modular and Portable Building Operative apprenticeship, to give new and existing operatives everything they need to complete all areas of work within the yard to the highest possible standard – a really exciting development.
Our training is not limited to young people or new starters. We are proponents of lifelong learning, and firmly believe in supporting all members of the Mobile Mini team to learn new skills, no matter what stage of life they are at. Our apprentices range from school leavers to people who have been part of the Mobile Mini family for a number of years, as we believe training should be open to all.
The Apprenticeship Levy has allowed us to upskill our existing staff and help propel their careers in way that was not possible before. The Team Leader programme has proven popular, with nine apprentices having started it so far – all of whom have so far passed with distinctions.
One of those was team leader Vicky Prest, who has been part of the Mobile Mini family for 16 years.
She said: “It wasn’t something that I originally had planned on doing; I thought my education had ended a long time ago.
“I expressed interest to my manager in expanding my knowledge more and he offered me a Team Leader/Supervisor apprenticeship. After meeting with the college and discussing what would be involved, it seemed like a great fit.
“Mobile Mini has encouraged me throughout the full journey, from finding the course that would suit me, to allowing me time out of my day to day tasks to do ‘on the job’ training.
“Doing the course has given me more knowledge and understanding on how to make decisions and how to look at the bigger picture. It’s really reiterated how much I enjoy doing what I do, and I’d recommend an apprenticeship to anyone.”
