Heritage Building & Conservation (York) LTD
Heritage Building & Conservation (York) Ltd, a specialist conservation and restoration contractor, have been awarded a contract to work on Manchester Cathedral, a historical building in need of repair and maintenance. The tower at the west end of Manchester Cathedral is currently in a poor condition and urgent need of repair. The majority of the works will be concerning the repair and consolidation of the masonry on the elevations of the tower including: stone de-scaling; the addressing of loose stone; louvres replacement; reinstatement of masonry; the removal/treatment of vegetation to the tower; the checking of the tower pinnacle and tower roof replacement.
During the project, the highly skilled team completing the work will be on-site for approximately 12 months. On-site facilities were needed, from a secure storage container to store safely site equipment such as tools and materials, as well as canteen facilities and an office to work from. As space was limited, the solution was to install the two units onto a gantry 5ft from the ground. A risk assessment and site survey had to be completed to ensure the gantry could take the heavy load and would be safe for a long period of time. Contracts Manager, Marcus Walker said: “We have worked with Mobile Mini on several projects to date and they have always met our expectations. This time with the added complexity of the gantry installation, they didn’t fail to impress. All the assessment work before installation was professional, the delivery was to a high standard and both units are fit for purpose.”
