A gin-teresting transformation

There’s no denying it, gin is ‘in’ and the nation’s obsession isn’t showing any sign of phasing out. According to the Wine and Spirit Trade Association, us Brits consumed over 1 billion G&T’s in 2017.

Scotland is leading the way in this gin takeover, producing over 70% of the gin which is consumed in the UK. St. Andrews-based Eden Mill is Scotland’s first single-site distillery and brewery, making a variety of gin as well as whisky and beer. They’re paving the way, applying a modern twist to time-honoured traditional methods, as well as using locally-sourced botanicals to create a wide-range of flavours.

Currently waiting for the completion of their new site, Eden Mill opened a temporary shop and gin-tasting experience in nothing other than renovated Mobile Mini site accommodation units, as they offered an affordable, quick and easy option which fit in with the rustic image of their previous site.

Given the temporary set up of the tasting room, the key for Eden Mill was speed, and our quick delivery times, low cost and minimal set-up needed to install the units, provided the ideal option.

Work was needed to transform them from their original state into what you’ll find at the site today. Wood was used to clad the front of the cabins and signs were recycled from the old site, but the team thought it was important to make sure the authenticity of the units was kept intact, rather than giving them the appearance of log cabins.

The quirky nature of the units is matched by the individuality of the experience itself, which involves customers being taken on the journey of Eden Mill’s past, learning about and sampling their gins, including one of their most innovative creations: bourbon-aged oak gin. So much to fit in three, 20ft units!

Showing just how the team is making it easy for customers, our whole team – from the drivers to the call centre – was praised for their approachability and professionalism, solving any queries and making the project come to life in a short space of time. Drawing from their experience with Mobile Mini, the team at Eden Mill hopes their new venture inspires others to do something a little different, and to think outside the box.

Of course, this is only one of many uses for our site accommodation units, and the options are only limited by your own imagination. What could you start from a Mobile Mini unit? If you have any ideas and need help to make them come to life, give our team a call on 0800 731 9878.

If you want to experience the Eden Mill tasting room yourself, head down to Guardbridge, St. Andrews but be quick, as it will only be in place until October.
