Last year we were enraptured with the mouth-watering burgers coming out the kitchen of an enthusiastic beardy chap who called himself the Burger Bear. Tom Reaney’s wild and delicious disco-fuelled burger van had been bouncing around London for a couple of years, and they had just started a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to build their first restaurant in Shoreditch out of a pair of stacked shipping containers.
Tom was already on target to smash his Kickstarter target (they raised an impressive £36,576 in just one month), but a restaurant is still a giant undertaking, even for the Bear himself.
That’s where we came in! As lovers of a top-quality burger, and big fans of anyone looking to do something creative and exciting with shipping containers, we just had to get involved. We donated two 20ft containers to help them get going as quickly as possible, and we’re very excited to say that work is finally getting underway to convert them in to a burger-fuelled disco diner, the likes of which has never been seen before.
Check out the first videos from the Burger Bear boys’ first few days on site, starting work on a soon-to be legendary House of Burger Bear:
We can’t wait for these hard-working burger connoisseurs to have a full-time home – no more chasing the van around in search of the perfect lunch – and we’re sure that anyone who’s never encountered these masters of meat before will love it.
Tom and the rest of the House of Burger Bear team are aiming for a May 2015 opening, so hopefully it won’t be long before we can all enjoy the awe-inspiring tower burgers and bacon jam that the Burger Bear kitchen offers up, soundtracked by hit after hit from their resident disco and funk DJ Horton Jupiter.
We can’t wait to see the finished result. Pop-up food stalls utilising shipping containers are becoming more and more popular, especially in London, but the Burger Bear boys are really going the extra mile. Hopefully we’ll see you down there for a burger or two… or ten…
If you have any questions about storage container conversions, or any other queries, then give us a call and we’ll see what we can do to help. You can keep up with Burger Bear developments on their Twitter, too.
